search engine optimization services, SEO tips
Search engine optimization or SEO is meant to describe a method of optimizing the content within your website to ultimately achieve higher search engine rankings and increase visitors to your site. Search engines use a wide variety of factors when ranking your website in a given search result, like keyword placement, backlinks and amount of relevant content.
SEO can be one of the most challenging tasks when promoting your website online. But the companies who use professional search engine optimization services are the ones whose sites are consistently ranking high on Google and other major search engines.
Obtaining high rankings on search engines for your website has become an increasingly complex process due to the growing amount of competition in the web marketplace. This is constantly evolving and the rules often change – sometimes on a daily basis. There are hundreds of factors that contribute to the overall value or “relevance” of your website in the eyes of search engines today.
In the old days of SEO, it was relatively easy to obtain a high ranking for a given search phrase or keyword. There were a lot of methods that were used that would more than certainly ban you from search engines today. These are commonly referred to today as “Black Hat” techniques.
One of the common methods used in the past was “keyword stuffing”. Let’s say you had a page that had a white background. And at the bottom of that page, you would add a large number (hundreds usually) of keywords in white text so they were invisible to the naked eye.
Today this type of approach would be considered “spam” and cause the page to be either banned or not indexed at all by the search engines. Heavy offenders who use this type of approach will often find their site removed entirely from the search engines.
There are many acceptable, proven methods of achieving high rankings within search engines, but none of it is done overnight. Most of these methods are achieved over a period of time. Some of the more difficult keywords may, in fact, take years to obtain the highest rankings.
Optimizing your website
When you begin an SEO campaign, it is extremely important to define your goals and targets before you begin making changes to your website. Here are some common questions you should ask yourself as a first step when optimizing your website:
- What are my targeted keywords or phrases?
- Does the content on my site relate to my terms?
- Are all of the pages of my website adding value?
- How might a visitor search for my company or products?
- How can I position myself as better than my competitors?
Developing content that speaks directly to each of these questions helps you direct visitors to your desired content, product or services. This takes the work of professional copywriting and website design services. One of the key things to remember is to develop the content on your website for your visitors first, and then worry about how a search engine may view that content.
Five Easy SEO Tips
1. Add analytics to your site: Although analytics systems do not directly contribute to your search engine rankings, they do provide a window on how visitors are using and finding your website. Search keywords, referring URLs and popular pages are outlined within these systems and are critical in developing and measuring your SEO progress.
2. Check to see which pages are indexed from your website: Looking at what pages are indexed on your website is a great way to determine how your site looks to a search engine. A simple way to determine this is to perform a search on your favorite engine in the following format.
After performing a search in this format, the search engine will list all of the pages that are indexed from your site. Performing this search will more than likely point out several problems with your existing site. Using your favorite search engine just enter your website URL in the following format.

3. Write meaningful page titles: Each page within your website should contain a summarized view of the content on the page. Your page title will typically be what is displayed in the search engine results. You will want to make sure that this information is correct, accurate and focused on the content of your web page.
4. Develop great content: Having great content is the number one item that will get you the results you are after. By having relevant, rich content you will increase the amount of opportunities search engines will have indexing your website and driving visitors organically.
5. Don’t be misled by false promises: Avoid companies that promise #1 rankings for your keywords. Most often these are scams that may deliver on their initial promises but more than likely will implement search terms or phrases that represent your goals. SEO is a moving target for many websites and it is not typically considered a one-time event.
Each page within your website is an opportunity to gain a new visitor from a search engine result. Ensuring that the content on your website is relevant, optimized and up to-date will increase your chances in landing new keywords and phrases and ultimately visitors.
